How-To Backup PuTTY Settings (Windows)

Client program for SSH, Telnet, RLogin, and SUPDUP Protocols

STEP 1: Locate the PuTTY Profile in Windows Registry

1. In Windows, open “Registry Editor“
2. Go to “\HKEY_CURRENT_USER or \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
3. Then “\SOFTWARE”
4. Locate “\SimonTatham” Settings

STEP 2: Export the PuTTY Settings

1. Highlight “SimonTatham”
2. Right+click on the “SimonTatham” and EXPORT
3. Give it a name and SAVE the *.reg file

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\SimonTatham

RESTORE THE BACKUP COPY

Just RIGHT-CLICK on the file and MERGE to Registry.
