DHCP and BOOTP Parameters

DHCP has two configurable options when it comes to pushing out WINS server information

  • 044 WINS/NSN Servers
  • 046 WINS/NBT Node Type

Option 044 allows you to enter all your WINS server IP addresses in the order you want clients to register as well as query when searching for a NetBIOS name.

Option 046 allows you to enter the specific node type you want your client to use. By default, neither WINS server nor NetBIOS node type is specified, in this case use value 0x8.

  031: Perform Router Discovery

  044: NetBIOS over TCP/IP Name Server (WINS/NBNS Servers)
  046: NetBIOS over TCP/IP Node Type (WINS/NBT Node Type)
  066: Boot Server Host Name
  067: Bootfile Name
  069: Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) Servers
  070: Post Office Protocol (POP3) Servers
